An example of the wayward behavior is that of a Supreme Court judge who insisted on raiding food factories and water bottlers and stated publicly that the water bottlers were ripping off the public. He also ordered the demolition of the walls surrounding the graveyards in Miani Sahib Graveyard of Lahore which was an area where the oldest graveyard has been established and was the area where the oldest families of Lahore are buried and maintained by their heirs. This action of the Supreme Court judge was inexplicable for the wanton manner in which the walls were demolished which allowed vagrants and wild dogs could roam freely and take up residence. This area is now well known for charas and heroine addicts and of course other unsavory characters and behavior.
The Supreme Court would do well to consider that the heirs of the graveyard denizens build walls to keep their ancestors safe from outsiders and not to stop the buried from running away! The motives of the judge rant through the graveyard gave rise to the graveyard authorities exercises on measures of monetary demands under the vague and obscure remarks of the judge. In the meantime those graves are unprotected from the vagrants of the area. The judge should be asked what was the reason for the invasion of this area which had no activity as the dead are known for their inability to move.
The graves in Miani Sahib are as still as any tombs in the world. They only come alive during Shab e Baraat when all the living relatives pay homage to their ancestors buried there. The judge should be asked for an explanation of his actions at Miani Sahib. This order of his should be struck down and if his retirement has taken place he should still be prosecuted for his wrongful acts on this instance. It is also rumored that the same judge after his fearsome reputation hosted a daughter’s wedding where the entire judiciary feasted. His daughter wore an outfit (Jora) that was designed and prepared by an Indian couturier who was flown to Dubai to take the measurements of the bride at a cost reported in the media for a staggering 25 Million Rupees.
It is no wonder that bails are available to the high rollers. While the public prays for the happiness of the young bride, in the presence of the entire judiciary and the shocking silence is regrettable. Has the legal fraternity lost its voice and it’s conscience? No legal reforms can be instituted unless the fraternity reforms itself.
