Politics has become the new career opportunity to make money.
Rather than industry, youngsters are encouraged to go into politics as the monetary returns are far greater.
Zardari who started out black marketing cinema tickets progressing after his marriage to Benazir has become Mr.10%, gouging his commission on every contract.
Eventually, he became the richest man in Pakistan.
Zardari and Nawaz Sharif have proved that politics is the best business to be in. The Sharifs proved that all the institutions of Pakistan could be bought. Justice Qayyum was filmed taking dictation from Shahbaz Sharif on the telephone.
Hence no charges have been proved against the Sharifs, further Nawaz Sharif while serving a 7 year sentence for corruption was granted bail and proceeded to London where he still enjoys freedom under this bail which is not allowed under any law of the world.
The money that the Sharifs made was in political patronage. This has set a dangerous precedent in Pakistan. The youth realises that politics is most the lucrative trade, giving the best yields with the added safety measure of protection from prosecution.
Unfortunately, this has a negative effect on the industry has a whole and leads to most industries winding down while the attention of the owners shifted towards politics.
This also brings a decline in exports affecting the value of the rupee.
Along with the loss of export markets of Pakistani goods. The Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis have captured the cotton market, a hitherto product of Pakistan, is now dominated by these two countries making it difficult for the Pakistani industry to fight back.
Worse still is the effect of the Pakistani mill owner now replacing his textile expertise with political gains.
The shift away from industry has led to the downgrading of all the associated ancillary industries such as garments etc, that are high value in the supply chain.
