The resignation of General Bajwa is raising some pertinent questions. It appears that the army is being targeted by the PMLN in particular, and getting away with it. The public cannot understand why Imran Khan’s government is not moving this massive power at its disposal, in asserting itself. Dangerously, it lends an impression that Imran thinks the General may be guilty. This may not be true, but it gives the public massive ammunition to throw at the hapless General.
All this is happening because of Imran’s inability to bring the punishments of the politicians to closure. For Marium Nawaz and even Ran Sanaullah to be launching virulent attacks against Imran Khan’s government is shocking, and the army is also surprising as there is no response, giving the Gullu Butts more encouragement. Does not Imran realise that his position as PM is not toothless, as if he were the president of the United Nations, he is the leader of the PTI and his “tigers” should be called out. They are not only showpieces to dispense charity, but must retaliate against the Jiyalas and the Gullu Butts. The presence of the PTI must be bolstered in the streets, as is being done by the other parties.
The strength of the Jiyalas and the Gullu Butts translates into an acquiescence by the media, which amounts to tacit support. The PTI cannot rely upon the police, for the police has already been looked after by the PMLN and the PPP. Unfortunately, the PTI has a reputation of not believing in largesse. Imran Khan expects his supporters and the police to perform their duties on their salaries, without any handouts. This simplistic approach does not work in a political system.
Does Imran not realise that just because he is honest the others should also do without? Further, his inability to punish shows him to be weak , and thus the public itself is confused. The judiciary has shown their bias in the generous bails granted. The JIT of the model town massacre are also on the back burner, and may die of forget. Anew expression but relevant in Pakistani judiciary.
The entire failure of Imran Khan is twofold, one is his inability to punish, and the other to reward. Both these failures will hasten his downfall. Imran Khan must take action for he is being blindsided by Marium Nawaz, who has the benefit of political infighters, who are masters of the dirty tricks that brought down prime ministers, supreme court judges and army chiefs. So a gentleman is easy game. This is not cricket dear boy. This is a dirty game, and you must beware of the no ball rule. Hit it out of the ground or lose the match.
Just enforce the law if you can.
