The power crisis of Pakistan was created by the power ministry. As there was insufficient power generation Zardari and Sharif put together a plan to invite companies to invest in power generation in Pakistan. The advantages offered were many, and some were more attractive than needed to be. Amongst the attractions was a clause built into the purchase agreement which promised to pay for the power even if it was not produced by the generating company.
Of course we had many ruthless companies that erected the power plants with a view to take advantage of the clause.
Interestingly, the power companies made use of this clause and padded their costs accordingly.
They continue to bill and collect plants that were closed. Thus legally robbing an already impoverished nation of capital, by supplying ghost electricity to ghost consumers.
These were paper transactions created by Nawaz Sharif and Zardari governments. We are a poor country and are made poorer by such corrosive contracts being built for power that is neither generated nor consumed.
This is a matter that is already under investigation by NAB. What is not understandable is why these contracts should not be renegotiated and these clauses should be removed.
Also the persons who executed these contracts should be punished.
These fake contracts created the monster namely “circular debt” which haunts us, and is a millstone around the national neck, and Impossible to get rid off as the successive governments are convinced that the heavens would fall if these contracts were touched.
Or a World War would ensue, or indeed some other catastrophic calamity would befall our country.
This threat succeeded in browbeating successive governments into submission.
The IPPs involved had for their part softened up the concerned officials of the appropriate government by greasing the palms required.
All these tactics had the blessings of Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and the entire establishment. This “Circular Debt” is indeed a monster that does not run our lives but manages to consume one government after another.
Imran Khan must indeed remove these monsters for they are the true enemies of Pakistan and are doing more damage than any “Modi” aided and abetted by the “Nishat Power “and other power producers. This outrageous scam is similar to the LNG terminal under investigation where a similar “Pay without Use” is costing the Pakistani people an exorbitant amount of $750,000 a Day, this and the circular debt the recurring death which refuses to go away , should be termed Economic Genocide. Billions of rupees-repaid and repaid and repaid. This is equivalent to economic treason and should be made punishable by death. A staggering amount by any measure and one that should be enough to put the entire board of directors of ENGRO into jail for life terms with a possible hanging for the chairman if true.
The Supreme Court should have taken notice of these violations of the Laws of Pakistan and the damage being done to the nation’s economy. These and other transgressions are enough to dissolve the so called democracy and bring about a new system for the investigation and punishment by a New System, as the Old Courts have displayed their inability to deliver Justice.
We understand Imran Khan’s frustration at being thwarted by these elements that are subverting the economy and the constitution itself. This corrupt Democracy must go. These assemblies are responsible for the high prices being imposed on the people and making life impossible. This flawed democracy is the monster that is to blame and must be removed.
