The Karachi Jitters
Published on May 13th 2015

As long as the trio of Asif Zardari,Nawaz Sharif, and Altaf Husain are in place, the country and specifically Karachi is losing billions, and this does not take into account the loss of jobs. In any country this would be considered a catastrophe, to be dealt with on a war footing. In Pakistan the GHQ is fighting the Taliban on a war footing, and is certainly doing an admirable job. However the political deadlock results in all three parties helping themselves to the fruits of corruption making the best of the preoccupation of the Army with the Northern areas. This has allowed the corrupt elements leeway to continue. Not realising that the cost to the Nation is far greater than any Taliban war. And longer lasting. Pakistan cannot afford such rapacious leadership, that is proving more costly to the Nation than any Hindu enemy, and a body count of twenty a day in Karachi alone is certainly more than than the average skirmish in the North. The latest count is of police officers being gunned down daily. Trained, serving DSPs three in the last two days. In Karachi.

These were not from suicide bombers, but targeted, by motorcycle riding men, ambushed the Police officers, obviously followed, and then shot dead. While we are congratulating ourselves on the successes in the North, here the enemy is striking in the heart of Karachi. GHQ should be cautioned that the political cleanup, must be carried out, as promised in the first meeting of the politicians with the Army command. One that has been put on the back burner for some unknown reason. And one that is being touted as the success of the politicians in bringing the Army push to a halt. The politicians are indeed more dangerous than the Taliban, and certainly the economic terrorism being unleashed on Pakistan will be difficult to replace.

As explained in a new book by an american journalist, that Kayani and Zardari were in the know of Osama’s location in Pakistan. If so then Gen Kayani and Zardari were guilty of treason, and should be tried under the law. To harbour the world enemy number one in Pakistan and not inform the government is despicable, and illegal, and against the Army code. Protecting and giving shelter to the enemy, is punishable by death, as far as I can see. Gen Kayani in his ten years at the helm of the army, has allowed the enemies of Pakistan to spread and strengthen both inside and outside the country. As we have watched the country being robbed by the politicians, the ray of hope was the Army, so when the COAS put the Rangers in charge, everyone was delighted, the raid on 90,was cheered by most of Karachi. Then the army action seemed to slow down, but the scams continued, and imperceptibly matters seemed to slide, and messages from the Zardari camp were being sent out, to insult the army.

( The threat to send a letter asking the Rangers to be sent back to the barracks was seen as a gesture of defiance to the Army.)

After the raid on 90 the share market picked up, primarily because the business community started feeling safer. However since then, there has been a downslide, and with the continued inaction the market dropped 1000 points today, in one day. This represents a loss of 2 billion dollars off the Market capitalisation,a huge amount, and shows how Karachi is still nervous, and without a firm action from the army, many people will lose their shirts. This 2 billion dollars,is apart from the 1.5 billion dollars invested in Dubai real estate. All this money has flown in the last two years, and is money desperately needed to prop up the infrastructure. We do not need new highways, we need the potholes repaired of the backroads.

The share market shows the confidence of the people in the country, but the confidence that Gen Shareef brought to Karachi, has withered away, and we are facing the same demons again. Only this time it is the Army that is being blamed. The MQM and the Zardari group are maintaining their innocence and now their voices are rising. The Army will have to make its move against the invaders from within. Or else the criminals will have overrun the country, and will have caused far more damage than any Hindu could inflict upon us. Gen Sb the time for action against the politicians is fast running out. These are the true enemies of Pakistan.
