The State of Pakistan is in a battle for survival. It has already allowed a corrupt leadership to install itself into power, and to emplace its corrupt cronies into key positions. The discovery that Gen. Kayani was in Zardari’s pay did not come as a shock to some, but in retrospect the damage by this nexus to the state cannot be ignored, nor calculated.
Luckily for Pakistan, Gen Raheel Sharif is untainted by the Zardari virus, and can amputate the diseased parts. This process has begun, albeit slowly, but it is gathering pace. The shocking exposures, on a daily basis are disturbing for it shows the extent to which the system has been corrupted. At every level.
The financial aspects have been revealed by the DG rangers who has managed to quantify the damage at approximately 2 billion Dollars per year, or PKR 230 Billion. This is a much more relevant figure because 100 Rs goes much further than 1 USD. Thus, the 230 Billion Rs is much more significant, and relevant. Even more so when this amount could have been used to curtail the poverty trap that is crushing us. The politicians,who are the true enemies of Pakistan are partaking of this 230 billion, and finding new schemes with which to enrich themselves at the cost of the poor people of Pakistan.
It is difficult to imagine how completely we have been overrun by these predators- in the name of democracy.
No foreign power would have been so cruel, or thoughtless.
While they wallowed in luxury, the Pakistani citizen was kept shackled in his misery. Unable to find his way up, out of the poverty. Where he was made to languish deliberately. This was criminality, not democracy. The scapegoat was the poor citizen.
The elections have served to prove that the corrupt have ensured their control of the election apparatus, and their stranglehold will return them time and again. The most dangerous aspect is the flouting of the laws that exist. The Judiciary has declared that the system has now been bent out of shape. The witnesses do not show when called forward, the Investigation is flawed, the prosecution does not apply its mind, and even the defendant is given leave of absence till the case eventually fizzles out. An example is Zardari, who has again avoided appearance in court as recently as last week. All of this was achieved mainly by the Government itself, siding with the criminals.
It is now essential that both sides are removed from the power centres. An independent interim setup should be installed, with the finest judges installed, with instructions to try each case within 15 days. Exemplary punishments should be given to any lawyer using delaying tactics of any kind. If people like Zardari, are given permission to be given hospital beds instead of appearance in court, which should be mandatory. For the last twenty years Zardari has not appeared in court. This is only possible with the connivance of government, or the courts, and of course the prosecution. American doctors came forward to certify that Zardari was suffering from Bipolar disorder, and could not appear in court. The same Bipolar patient was elevated to President of Pakistan, nothing short of a miracle. Pakistan of course has some very powerful saints, and many miracles are credited to them. Zardari is their most recent case. However his recent rant on TV shows that he may not be completely cured. How Pakistan was ruled for five years by a certified lunatic with his finger on the button ! We should thank our American friends, who did twist many arms to ensure his election. The U.S. Doctor should also be sued for malpractice, mainly so no other Doctor is used in this manner.
The legal system must be overhauled for without this important change, no interim setup can be successful. All the criminal persons who are now occupying such important positions, must be removed and dealt with according to the law. No Martial law or military law will have a hope of success if loopholes are left to be exploited.
The law fraternity, should stop their interfering in procedures, on the other hand they should facilitate the due process of the law instead of creating hurdles, and the bench must strike down with fury all attempts at delays. The lawyers involved should be punished. Likewise the doctor that gave Zardari the false certificate should be struck off the medical register in New York, and a case for criminal abetment should be filed in New York, which would serve as a warning to others to refrain from such illegal acts. Similarly any lawyer invoking a stay order from the court should be charged with obstruction of justice, unless it entails a jail sentence, which is invariably miscarriage of justice in the first place.
The Army chief should remove the present Governments, and not pay heed to the criticism, for the critics are themselves partners of the biggest criminals. Any other critics such as Asma Jehangir etc should be charged with being anti state if they challenge this edict.
The danger is that criminals have succeeded in taking over the government, and are using the power of the government to commit further crimes, and the same power to stop any punishments against the perpetrators. An example is the ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Yusuf Raza Gilani, removed a necklace given by the Prime Minister of Turkey into his private ownership, claiming that it was a gift to him. This is patently false, as the necklace belonged to the state of Pakistan, and Gilani had robbed it from the State itself. He should be treated like a common thief.
Gen Raheel Shareef will have to step into the breach and stem this tide. The constitution is flawed, and has been rendered completely useless. It has proved that it has been converted into a criminal protection component, and can, and should be discarded so that a new constitution can be brought in, which protects against criminals. The State of Pakistan is now a criminal enterprise, and drastic action must be taken to prevent the collapse. Even ex-Prime Ministers are committing petty thievery. A major Party has been accused by the BBC no less, of being funded by India. The system has collapsed, and must be set aside. Gen Shareef must move now.
There is no other solution.
